Hopelijk worden</FONT><FONT FACE="Calibri"> er nu spoedig ook top-down de zo noodzakelijke stappen gezet om de Aarde leefbaar te houden, vooral voor volgende generaties, waarin uw en onze (klein)kinderen moeten leven.</FONT></SPAN></P>
<P DIR=LTR><SPAN LANG="nl"><B></B></SPAN><SPAN LANG="nl"><B><FONT SIZE=4 FACE="Calibri">Klimaat én Biodiversiteit </FONT></B></SPAN></P>
<P DIR=LTR><SPAN LANG="nl"></SPAN><SPAN LANG="nl"><FONT FACE="Calibri">Op 2 oktober</FONT> <FONT FACE="Calibri">vond in Amersfoort het jubileumsymposium plaats van de Werkgroep Voetafdruk Nederland (WVN), onder leiding van Rachel Heine, directeur van de VVM, netwerk van milieuprofessionals. In 2018 was de WVN 10 jaar actief, vooral rond bevolking, voetafdrukken en</FONT> <FONT FACE="Calibri">q</FONT><FONT FACE="Calibri">uotering/rantsoenering. Met als uitgangspunt het boek</FONT> <FONT FACE="Calibri">‘</FONT><FONT FACE="Calibri">Ecologica</FONT><FONT FACE="Calibri">‘</FONT><FONT FACE="Calibri"> van bioloog Hans Meek, secretaris van de WVN, werd met de inleiders en een 70-tal deelnemers gediscussieerd over de grote ecologische vraagstukken. Kunnen we nog wel optimistisch zijn of dr</FONT><FONT FACE="Calibri">e</FONT><FONT FACE="Calibri">igen we de hoop te verliezen? Duidelijk werd in ieder geval dat zowel de snelle klimaatontwrichting als het verlies aan biodiversiteit nu alle aandacht verdienen. Voor belangstellenden is een uitgebreid verslag beschikbaar. <P DIR=LTR><SPAN LANG="nl"></SPAN><SPAN LANG="nl"><FONT FACE="Calibri">In november werd voor de 10</FONT></SPAN><SPAN LANG="nl"></SPAN><SPAN LANG="nl"><SUP><FONT FACE="Calibri">de</FONT></SUP></SPAN><SPAN LANG="nl"></SPAN><SPAN LANG="nl"><FONT FACE="Calibri"> keer het tweejaarlijkse </FONT> <FONT FACE="Calibri">‘</FONT><FONT FACE="Calibri">Living Planet</FONT> <FONT FACE="Calibri">Report</FONT><FONT FACE="Calibri">’</FONT><FONT FACE="Calibri"> gepubliceerd. Deze keer was er wereldwijd extra veel aandacht voor. Dat komt vooral door het alarmerende bericht dat tussen 1970 en 2014 maar liefst 60% van de populaties van de wereldwijd gemonitorde gewervelde dieren te zijn verdwenen! Dus een d</FONT><FONT FACE="Calibri">r</FONT><FONT FACE="Calibri">amatische ontwikkeling. Gelukkig lijkt de extra aandacht ook hier en daar tot actie te leiden, ook met betrokkenheid van de landbouworganisaties. De gemiddelde Nederlandse voetafdruk staat nu 5,9 mondiale hectare (mha). De grootste gemiddelde voetafdruk i</FONT><FONT FACE="Calibri">s</FONT><FONT FACE="Calibri"> van Quatar met 15,5 mha. <P DIR=LTR><SPAN LANG="nl"></SPAN><SPAN LANG="nl"><FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Calibri">In 2017 werd na 25 jaar de tweede</FONT> <FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Calibri">‘</FONT><FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Calibri">Scientist</FONT><FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Calibri">’</FONT><FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Calibri">s Warning to Humanity</FONT><FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Calibri">’</FONT><FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Calibri"> gepubliceerd, nu ondertekend door meer dan 21.000 wetenschappers. Zij luiden de alarmbel over de toekomst van de Aarde, en geven aan dat er veel meer moet</FONT> <FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Calibri">gebeuren om het leven op Aarde nog enigszins leefbaar te houden. <P DIR=LTR><SPAN LANG="nl"></SPAN><SPAN LANG="nl"><FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Calibri">Het Platform Duurzame en Solidaire Economie nam het initiatief voor een petitie over een drastische verkleining van onze mondiale voetafdruk. De aanleidin</FONT><FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Calibri">g was het lauwe debat in de Tweede Kamer over de</FONT> <FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Calibri">‘</FONT><FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Calibri">Monitor Brede Welvaart</FONT><FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Calibri">’</FONT><FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Calibri"> die in 2018 voor het eerst verscheen. In de monitor komt duidelijk naar voren dat onze welvaart ten koste gaat van veel en velen buiten ons land en ook van komende generaties. Daarm</FONT><FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Calibri">e</FONT><FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Calibri">e worden mensenrechten geschonden. Binnen een maand kwamen er wel 23 organisaties onder de petitie te staan, waaronder de FNV, Greenpeace, Milieudefensie, Natuurmonumenten en natuurlijk ook de WVN. Op 22 januari wordt de petitie formeel aangeboden aan de</FONT> <FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Calibri">C</FONT><FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Calibri">ommissie Economische Zaken en Klimaat van de Tweede Kamer. Op de dag van de mensenrechten</FONT> <FONT FACE="Calibri">–</FONT><FONT FACE="Calibri"> 2 december - werden in het Vredespaleis te Den Haag de</FONT> <FONT FACE="Calibri">‘</FONT><FONT FACE="Calibri">The Hague Principles</FONT><FONT FACE="Calibri">’</FONT><FONT FACE="Calibri"> gelanceerd. <P DIR=LTR><SPAN LANG="nl"></SPAN><SPAN LANG="nl"><FONT FACE="Calibri">Het was te</FONT> <FONT FACE="Calibri">verwachten. Zodra de lasten van klimaatbeleid te veel op de schouders van de minder draagkrachtigen wordt gelegd komt er opstand. De</FONT> <FONT FACE="Calibri">‘</FONT><FONT FACE="Calibri">gele hesjes</FONT><FONT FACE="Calibri">’</FONT><FONT FACE="Calibri"> zijn er een duidelijk voorbeeld van. In dat geval komt de noodzaak van beleid met een rechtvaardige aanpak e</FONT><FONT FACE="Calibri">n</FONT><FONT FACE="Calibri"> toch een effectief resultaat aan bod. En dat is quoteren of rantsoeneren, waarbij met een plafond wordt gewerkt dat bijv. in 10 jaar wordt verlaagd naar het noodzakelijke niveau. Voor CO2 is al geruime tijd geleden in Engeland het TEQs-systeem door David</FONT><FONT FACE="Calibri"></FONT> <FONT FACE="Calibri">Fleming gepresenteerd; de Tradeble Energy Quotas. Omdat na invoering van een dergelijk systeem de vlucht naar meer landgebruik voor energie snel zal toenemen, bepleit de WVN voor rantsoenering van voetafdrukken, dus inclusief landgebruik.
